This past weekend my husband and I decided to take a last minute trip out of town and left the kids home alone. My sister lives next door so I knew that the kids should be fine and told her to check in on them, plus told the kids if they needed anything to call their aunt and uncle. I figure at 16 and 17 they would be pretty responsible, and did ask ahead of time if they could have a few friends over. I said they could have 2 friends over each, and they could play with their game consoles. and snack on the foods that I left for them, but asked them please not to leave a mess. They promised, so I felt pretty good about leaving them with some new games and their game consoles. It also helped that I knew the friends they were inviting over were also great kids and I knew they wouldn't get in any trouble.

My husband and I had a wonderful time and when we arrived home late Sunday evening I was surprised when I walked in and saw the house a complete mess. I walked into the kitchen and called my sister who answered on the first ring. I asked her if she'd been over to my house and seen all the game consoles. and games scattered from one end of the house to the other, and she said that she had called the kids but hadn't stopped in and that if she'd known they'd left the game consoles scattered everywhere she would have made sure they were picked up. The kids were at her house for dinner, since they'd eaten all the food I'd left them. While they were there, I decided to take all the game consoles. and put them away in a closet. I think they'll stay there a while and hopefully next time the kids decide to leave their game consoles. all over the house they'll think about it.
